The bald eagle is a North American bird of prey. Its range includes most of Canada, Alaska, all of the contiguous United States and northern Mexico. It is a sea eagle found near large bodies of open water. It is the national bird and symbol of the United States.

Identification

Adults

Adults are brown with white heads and tail. The beak, feet, and irises are bright yellow. Adult males and females appear identical except that females are 25 percent larger than males.

Immature

The immature plumage is brown, speckled with white until the around the fifth year when it reaches sexual maturity.
