The Red-breasted Nuthatch is resident to Canada, Alaska and the northeastern and western United States.

Identification

Adult Male

The adult male has blue-grey upperparts and rich rusty-red underparts. They have a black crown, a white face with a black stripe through the eyes and a white throat. It is smaller than the closely related White-breasted Nuthatch.

Adult Female

The adult female is similar to the male but with paler red underparts.
