Is a medium-sized bird that ranges from British Columbia, Utah, and Colorado south in higher elevations through Mexico and Central America to northern Argentina. It is the biggest pigeon in North America.

Identification

Adults

Adult male and female band-tailed pigeons are similar in appearance. They are dark overall, with a white collar on nape. The tail is dark gray at base, and light gray across the tip. The bill and feet are yellow.

Immature

Immature birds appear similar to the adult but lacks the white crescent and iridescent patch on the nape. They also have white feather edges above, giving a scaly appearance.
