The golden-crowned sparrow is an medium-sized American sparrow in the family Emberizidae. It breeds in north-western Canada and Alaska. In the winter they migrate to the southern West coast of Canada and the West Coast of the United States.

Identification

Adults

Adult male and female golden-crowned sparrows are similar in appearance. In the breeding season, adult golden-crowned sparrows have a gold stripe flanked by two black stripes on their crown. At other times of the year the gold and black stripes are dull.

Immature

Immature birds are similar to the adults but with dull gold and black stripes.
